Ethical Practice Terms

Cultural Appreciation
Respectful engagement with cultural practices that involves learning history, acknowledging origins, and supporting source communities.
Safe Space
An environment where all participants feel welcome, respected, and free from harassment or discrimination.

Dance & Cultural Terms

Afro-Lusophone
Refers to African-influenced cultures and practices in Portuguese-speaking regions and communities.
Kizomba
A dance and music genre originating from Angola, characterized by close connection and fluid movement.
Semba
An Angolan dance style considered the precursor to Kizomba, featuring playful footwork and body movement.
Social Dance
Partner dancing in informal settings, emphasizing connection, improvisation, and community interaction.
